How Is Child Support Calculated in Tennessee?
In Tennessee, the parent who has primary custody of the child(ren) is entitled to receive child support from the other parent. Child support is calculated based on the Tennessee Child Support Guidelines, which takes into account the number of children, the parents' incomes, the child's age, and other factors.
The parent with primary custody is the parent with whom the child spends the most time. If the child spends equal time with both parents, the parent with the higher income is considered the primary custodial parent.
The amount of child support can be adjusted based on other factors such as the cost of medical insurance, the cost of childcare, and more. The court has discretion to adjust the child support amount up or down to fit the circumstances of the case.
