Shelby R. Black practices in the areas of family law, criminal defense, and military law. He primarily focuses on courts located in Montgomery County, Tennessee, and the local military bases, including Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
Shelby has a background as a U.S. Navy assistant Judge Advocate General (JAG), serving both stateside and abroad. He performed many duties as a JAG, including criminal prosecution of sex offenses, violent crimes prosecution, healthcare law, and as a Command Judge Advocate for Navy Installations and Navy Strike Fighter squadrons. He also assisted servicemembers with civil litigation, including divorce and child custody. Although his active-duty time has ended, he is still a current member of the U.S. Navy Reserve, serving as a Lieutenant Commander (O-4).
Shelby is a 2013 graduate of Austin Peay State University, with honors. He graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2017 and served as a moot court team member.
Shelby is a proud father of two and he is a devoted husband. He was raised on a farm in Tennessee and now lives in Clarksville.
